The weather was wild, wet and wintry outside, yet set the scene for a warming Saturday night at Robert Blackwood Hall for the NBCA’s annual Mid-Year Concert. Fittingly, a feature of the night’s programme was the NBCA’s rendition of Songs of the Sea and Sky, a selection of songs written by Todd McNeal. The NBCA premiered a new composition by Todd, Whenever the Wind is High, proving to be a highlight of the night’s performance.

After just six months of training, the audience enthusiastically welcomed the Elementary choristers to the world of performing. They joined with the Junior boys on stage to open the concert with Pemulwuy by Paul Jarman.

Guest artist and NBCA Old Boy, Austin Haynes sang with great assurance, inspiring the current NBCA choristers with Ave Maria, Lascia ch’io pianga and Tale of the Oyster before the Performing Choir concluded the evening with selections from Les Miserables and Waltzing Matilda.

The National Boys Choir of Australia acknowledges the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation, the traditional custodians of the land on which we rehearse and work. We pay respect to their elders past, present and emerging.
