A selection of Performing choristers performed with the MSO for Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring at Hamer Hall in July. The choristers performed in Perséphone in the first half alongside the MSO, MSO Chorus, Australian Girls Choir, tenor Paul Groves and narrator Lotte Betts-Dean; conducted by Sir Andrew Davis OAM. This was the first time in over 50 years that Perséphone had been performed in Australia. Both performances were exhilarating experiences for the boys, and the first performance garnered a five star review in Limelight magazine.

To quote: “It is a beautiful but complex piece, and the MSO and its choristers under Sir Andrew Davis performed admirably.” The performances also caught the eye of The Age, and attracted a four and a half star review. Their words were flattering: “By comparison…Stravinsky’s Perséphone…in the hands of such talented musicians, including the MSO chorus, The Australian Girls Choir and National Boys Choir, was still compelling.”

The National Boys Choir of Australia acknowledges the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation, the traditional custodians of the land on which we rehearse and work. We pay respect to their elders past, present and emerging.
