Nicholas Perriman joined the NBCA as a nine year old and spent the next six years singing and performing his way around Melbourne and wider Australia.
With NBCA being a treble choir, nature has her way with the choristers and retirement arrives with voice change. Nicholas maintained his connection with the Choir, returning each year to sing with the Men’s Choir at the annual Christmas concerts.
After completing Year 12, Nicholas spent three years at the Australian Defence Force Academy in Canberra. He graduated as an Officer Cadet, completing an Arts Degree and Military training. He then moved to the Royal Military College Duntroon for a further twelve months, completing the course second in his year, winning several prizes and graduating as a Lieutenant in the Australian Army.
Four months after graduation, Nicholas was deployed to Iraq for six months and then to East Timor for a further six months.
After promotion and wearing the rank of Captain, he was deployed to Afghanistan for eight months. Nicholas was awarded The Distinguished Service Medal (DSM) in the recent 2012 Queen’s Birthday Honours for distinguished
leadership in action in Afghanistan.
