After six months of intensive work learning eighteen songs from memory and the Britten opera The Golden Vanity, the boys took to the stage to perform on July 25. The programme included Bible Songs for Young Voices by Gregg Smith and some Mary Poppins favourites to conclude the evening.

As for The Golden Vanity, the boys enjoyed the opportunity to swagger about the stage as pirates and sailors. Our music staff received a petition from the boys earlier this year, requesting a staged production in the repertoire . . . we relented and out came the pirate and sailor costumes for adjustments and additional new garments made as needed. The ‘old salties’ looked fabulous in the costumes prepared by our hard-working wardrobe team.

Our Elementary and Junior choirs opened the evening in fine style with a vibrant and confident performance. They then set about preparing for their next concert in September.

The National Boys Choir of Australia acknowledges the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation, the traditional custodians of the land on which we rehearse and work. We pay respect to their elders past, present and emerging.
